Easter in Bendigo has a distinct Chinese feel, with a host of activities paying homage to the region's Far Eastern heritage. The region's Chinese past - Chinese miners and merchants made up 20% of the Bendigo population in the 1860s - takes centre stage. Tomorrow, Spectacular China (8.30pm at the Tom Flood Sports Centre) promises a "taste of the Beijing Olympics ceremony" with dancers, acrobats, martial arts demonstrators and musicians from China. On Easter Sunday, the traditional "Awakening of the Dragon" ceremony takes place in the afternoon with Chinese lion dancers and martial arts displays. It will be followed by a fireworks over Lake Weeroona. Easter Monday sees Sun Loong, the world's largest imperial Chinese dragon wind its way through the streets of Bendigo with smaller dragons, firecrackers and colourful -- DARREN LEVIN
